About Jano Cohen

Jano Cohen teaches private lessons in the Alexander Technique and T’ai Chi Ch’uan and conducts classes and workshops throughout the greater Philadelphia area.  She works with students of all ages and occupations and has had extensive experience working with people who are injured or who have chronic pain. Her work at People’s Light and Theatre includes private lessons and coaching for actors. She was certified as a teacher by The Alexander Foundation, (now called “The Alexander Alliance”), in 1990 and is a teaching and founding member of Alexander Technique International.  

Jano is a long-term student of the yang style of t'ai chi ch'uan with Maggie Newman who is a senior student of Cheng Man Ch'ing.  Her dance and choreography experience of 22 years includes an M.F.A. in dance from Temple University and a B.A. in dance from Bennington College

Other influences on her teaching include 25 years practicing therapeutic massage, 10 years playing the violin and piano and successfully rehabilitating from multiple injuries and two ankle surgeries.
